Wildrunner is proud to announce that the Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge Extreme 2013 route has been selected as the SOUTH AFRICAN LONG DISTANCE TRAIL RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 qualifier by Athletics South Africa (ASA)! Exciting news for Wildrunner!
This is the first time that there will be a national Long Distance Trail Running Championship, and sets an exciting precedent for the professional trail running industry. The Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge Extreme 2013 will facilitate the team selection chosen to represent South Africa at the World Champs in Poland in August 2013.
Altus Schreuder, Chairman of the Athletics South Africa Committee for Trail Running, believes that this route is ideal in terms of its mountain terrain, and will lift the profile of professional trail running in South Africa. He anticipates that the race will draw top racers from all over the country to participate.
Wildrunner, who won the bid to organise the SOUTH AFRICAN LONG DISTANCE TRAIL RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 from ASA, look forward to this exciting element at this year’s Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge event. The Jonkershoek Mountain Extreme route, which for the past two years has been set at 30km, will be amended to cover at least 35km preparation for the World Championship routes – so expect some exciting additions to this year’s route! There will also be some amendments to the age categories of previous years, so watch this space!
Online entries for the Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge 2013 open on Monday, 18 February at www.jonkershoekmountainchallenge.co.za. In addition to the 35km JMC Extreme route, there will also be a 19km Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge route and the 9km Jonkershoek Mountain Run. For more info, visit the website here.
