On the 29th of November, the eve of the Lesotho Ultra Trail Race, Nicholas Lykiardopulos, fell and suffered serious injuries in his lodgings. Nick is an active and well-liked member of the Celtic Harriers road and trail running community.
As a result of the fall, Nick suffered serious swelling to the brain, and had to be flown to Bloemfontein for an emergency operation, following which, he was placed in an induced coma to facilitate his recovery. Further complications resulting from an infection has complicated his recovery, and the prognosis from his doctors is up to 6 months for a full recovery.
Nick and his family have so far incurred significant costs, and the anticipated long rehabilitation will add substantially to this already onerous financial burden.
Celtic Harriers Club has taken the decision to step forward and raise funds, through the Chairman’s Fund, in order to lighten the load on Nick and his long-term girlfriend, Claire, and allow them to focus on his recovery.
Celtic Harriers would like to make an impassioned plea to members and friends to help bolster this effort by making a contribution towards Nick’s expenses, The monies collected will go directly towards defraying expenses already incurred and not covered by medical aid, as well as additional rehabilitation costs.
Contributions can be made to the following account:
FNB Claremont (200109)

Celtic Harriers, and the running community of Cape Town take this opportunity to wish Nick and Claire all the best during this trying time, and send their best wishes and prayers for a speedy and full recovery.
