I can confirm that running to Semonkong is much more fun than driving there on the A 5.

We even met the race judges pondering their strategy for allocating awards

that there is a lot of teamwork going on on the trails,
and the provisions have already left the top gate at Semonkong.

The area was quite soaked after the rains, but I guess there is enough time for drying until the wildrun.

Thank you Owen and Huddlestone for your good advice. We had a great time hiking and running around Mt. Moroosi, Malealea, Semonkong and Ramabanta. At the trading post, we met the guy who is running around the villages preparing the locals for the event. We saw that mostly women prepare the water tables,

Hi Owen, Klaus. If you just carry on with the road past Roma, for a long drive to Semonkong, you will find the Semonkong Lodge with very nice accomodation and if you carry on past the Big waterfall (highest in Africa) you will be in a very beautifull part of Lesotho. Pony trekking is available and very nice paths to run. If Semonkong lodge is full, look for the old hospital up the hill. You can ask to stay there or any local will gladly give you place to sleep. Just ask the local chief first. I did some missionary work there in the mountains. The road to Ha Rameno is breathtaking. I ran there and back-about 2 hours on horseback.

Hi Klaus, there is very little information out there but try the lodges as a useful source of info on each local area.  If you are in Maseru, you need to get out at least as far as Roma before you find yourself out of town.  Generally though, trails link up village to village, so head out and run.  Word of warning though, is you see a bunch of young guys with red blankets and white faces these are youngsters undergoing their passage to manhood initiation and you want to steer well clear of any groups like this.  But again, ask at the local lodges, or community centers and they might be able to give you the heads up on any activities like this going on.  The villages are extremely friendly, and the further you get from towns the less you get asked for sweets and get treated with nothing more than a mild curiosity!  Enjoy exploring and merry Christmas to you!  Kind regards, Owen
